Cora’s story

Two-year-old Cora exemplifies the power of Inova's unique approach. After a fetal ultrasound detected a single ventricle congenital heart difference, Inova's team worked with the NICU to prepare for her birth and immediate care needs. After three procedures and close monitoring by multiple specialists, she is now a happy little girl at home with her family.

Why Inova?

Our surgeons perform hundreds of cardiac surgeries each year for patients ranging from fragile newborns facing challenging health problems to adults with complex congenital heart disease.

Our interventional cardiologists use the latest technologies to perform transcatheter valve implantation, stent placement, atrial septal defect closure and balloon angioplasty. We are also performing patent ductus arteriosus closure in premature infants.

Our electrophysiologists perform more than 200 pediatric electrophysiology procedures a year with a greater than 96% success rate for catheter ablations. The adult congenital electrophysiology program is the region’s largest.

Comprehensive and supportive multidisciplinary team approach to the management of pregnant women who are at high risk or who are carrying a baby with a suspected cardiac defect.

Our talented cardiologists see patients in numerous offices throughout Northern Virginia and parts of Maryland.

Each patient receives care from a multidisciplinary team of experienced cardiologists, surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, nurse practitioners and nurses.

Our specially trained registered nurses serve as a source of support to patients and families. They help manage and coordinate doctor’s office visits, diagnostic tests, and communications between specialists and primary care physicians. They also are excellent resources for information about clinical trials, education, transportation and financial concerns.

Our pediatric specialists can identify hereditary conditions in young children and provide insights into the most appropriate early treatments.

Inova’s Child Life team helps ease the anxiety and stress that may affect a child during a hospital stay or outpatient procedure. As each child is different, our programs are rich with diverse tools to individualize each child’s stay. Services may include art therapy, music therapy, special events and more.

We are dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of new methods to diagnose and treat various conditions. Inova is actively involved with clinical research along a spectrum that includes fetal cardiology, congenital heart disease, adult congenital heart defects and complex hereditary arrhythmias.
